Rules for Business...
... Rules for life.
by Marie Browning (February 5, 2007)
(Note: CLN sent Marie a rough copy of an industry code of
ethics to get her feedback. Turns out she already had one!)
1. Be Responsible. YOU are responsible, not the company. YOU
have the ultimate responsibility for your actions. Don't worry about
what everyone else is doing.
2. Talk WITH people, not AT them.
3. Never talk ABOUT them.
4. Say NO to negativity. Avoid it and discourage it in
others.
5. Surround yourself with positives. Seek out others who talk
about ideas and not people.
6. Maintain confidentiality – at all times with everything.
7. Don't take what isn't yours.
8. Don't accept what you haven't earned.
9. Always tell the truth, it's easier to remember.
10. Be Patient, understanding, and practice empathy. Nobody's
perfect; we all make mistakes. Cut people the same amount of slack
that you would want from them. Before judging someone, try walking
in his or her shoes.
11. Recognize and value each person's inherent human worth.
12. Be polite.
13. Listen as much as you speak.
14. Make it safe for others to do business with you.
15. Work only with businesses that share your commitment to
ethical business.
16. When in doubt, remember the golden rule: "TREAT
OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED."
