Q. What are Creative Leisure News and Creative Leisure
Communications?
A. Creative Leisure News is a business newsletter serving
professionals in the arts & crafts industry. "Arts &
crafts" is actually an umbrella term encompassing hard crafts,
painting, needlework, sewing, florals, scrapbooking, stamping, etc.
CLN is published by Creative Leisure Communications, which also
provides consulting services to the industry. (See Consulting
Services for more details.)

Q. Who subscribes to CLN?
A. Manufacturers, distributors,
retailers, publishers, designers, trade associations, e-commerce
operators, stock brokers, and companies of all types interested in
entering the craft market. Most of the largest -- and some of the
smallest -- companies in the industry subscribe, including companies
20 countries in Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia.

Q. When and how is it published?
A. CLN is published the first
and third Mondays of each month, or 24 times a year.
1 When a new issue is posted on this site, an email is
sent to registered subscribers containing a link. They click on the
link and it takes them to our home page, which contains the
headlines of the new issue.
Subscribers have access to the CLN Archives and the various
columns such as Business-Wise. If big news occurs between issues, subscribers receive special email
bulletins.

Q. What is covered in each issue?
A. That depends on what has
happened in the industry since our last issue. As a general rule,
CLN reports on the activities of the major chains and independents,
product and sales trends, reports from major trade shows, personnel
changes, and the stock activity of industry-related public
companies.
Plus, there is analysis and commentary by Publisher Mike Hartnett
and a host of industry professionals. Mike has been reporting on the
industry more than two decades, so he's developed the industry's
most extensive list of contacts and can report the news in its
historical context.

Q. Why should I subscribe to Creative Leisure News?
A. You
receive the news much more quickly than any magazine that has to be
printed, mailed, etc. In fact, the news in our Archives is more
immediate than anything in the "current" issue of a
magazine.
Plus, it's quick and easy to read and keeps you up to date with
only a 10-minute read. Finally, it can improve your business. What
is it worth to learn what your customers, competitors, and vendors
are doing? To learn what's selling around the country? Subscribers
have found new jobs, owners hoping to sell their companies have
found buyers they've found buyers or sellers for their companies.

Q. What is the cost?
A. One year's (24 issues) subscription is $195. Once a company has a subscription,
everyone in the main office can register, free. For employees out of the main office,
subscriptions are $65. Subscriptions for individuals are also $6549.

Q. Why don't I just give out my copy, or give out my username and
password, so others can read CLN?
A. Because giving out your
username and password, or making copies of copyrighted material, is
illegal.
[ top ]
Q. What is your policy regarding copyrights?
A. A subscriber may
print and distribute the issue to co-workers in the same building,
but may not give out his/her username and password to anyone else.
(We have software to see how often a particular username and
password are used.)
Fax subscribers may distribute an issue around the office -- but
that's all. The reason for these restrictions are simple. First,
it's illegal. Second, it's unfair to paid subscribers. Third, if
people don't pay for CLN, it will disappear.

Q. What about reprinting an article from CLN?
A. You must ask
permission first. You'll probably receive it, but call Mike Hartnett
at 309-925-5593 or email Mike at mike@clnonline.com.

Q. What if I don't think CLN is worth the money?
A. CLN offers a
complete refund. If after a year you do not think you have received
your money's worth, call us and we'll give you a complete refund. So
your subscription is risk-free.

Q. What if I'm not sure I want to subscribe?
A. Do two things:
1. Go to the Archives section and read some recent issues.
2. Click on Two Free Issues. We'll send you the next two issues
of CLN. Then we'll send you an invoice for a year's subscription; if
you decide you do not wish to subscribe, just tell us. We'll cancel
your subscription and you keep the two issues, free.

Q. What kind of news is CLN interested in?
A. If your company is
bought or sold, personnel changes, sales trends, new web or
e-commerce sites, job openings, comments on trade shows, etc. Note:
If you wish to comment on an industry issue but do not want your
name mentioned, we will omit your name. However, we will not publish
any item unless we do know who the author is.

Q. How will my subscription work?
A. It's simple. Just click on
